Free Tools to Increase Donor Reach

Looking for ways to broaden your donor reach? We have some suggestions! Some of the biggest tech and retail names are giving back in innovative ways. While monetary donations may be the most popular form of charitable giving, there are now numerous other methods by which nonprofits can receive support.

We’ve rounded up just a few of the resources that are available. One caveat for all of these (except Target and Walmart wishlists) is that you must be a 501(c)(3) recognized nonprofit. For more information on how to qualify for this tax-exempt status, check out our previous post.

Through AmazonSmile, your supporters can buy items on Amazon and the company will donate 0.5% of eligible purchases to your nonprofit.

Nonprofits must be listed with GuideStar and meet other eligibility criteria. Marketing tools on offer include a unique link to a customized AmazonSmile landing page that can be used in promotional emails, newsletters, social media, or your own website.

Auction off your donated items at eBay For Charity and receive 100% of the proceeds. To get started, you’ll need to register for a PayPal business account with your EIN number and a bank statement. Once confirmed, you’ll have access to your own profile and dashboard.

NEDDIE is a one-stop shop for all your nonprofit needs. Post virtual events or events near you. Make wishlists from which donors can buy items you need. Manage campaigns and even open your own marketplace! Create your very own public profile for donors to see. Donors can track their donations and be empowered to choose how to get involved with the causes they love. NEDDIE welcomes 501c3 nonprofits to register for a free account today.

If your nonprofit provides essential goods to the community, Good360 may be able to help boost your impact. This nonprofit offers a large inventory of product donations from major brands, which you can browse using their online donation catalog. Their other programs include one that matches local retailers with nonprofits to receive one-time or regular donations.

Google Ad Grants provides $10,000 worth of free advertising to eligible nonprofits each month. This is part of their Google for Nonprofits suite, which nonprofits can access once approved, and also includes G Suite for Nonprofits, YouTube Nonprofit program, and Google Earth and Maps.

In order to be eligible, nonprofits cannot be a governmental entity or organization, hospital or healthcare organization, a school, academic institution, or university.

Wishlists

Popularized by Amazon, wishlists are now offered by other retailers as well. For nonprofits, it can be a fun and easy way to ask for needed items such as essential goods for the community you support. You can create wishlists with these retailers:

Here are a few tips to get the most out of your wishlist:

  • Let your supporters know what each item on your list will be used for.

  • Prioritize the most needed items to the top of the list.

  • Monitor and update your lists regularly. Let your supporters know when items go on sale or when new items are added to the list.

  • Be sure to request a variety of things. Different items will appeal to different people.

Technology and corporate responsibility have dovetailed to bring about innovative avenues of charitable giving. Companies, individuals, and nonprofits are coming together in more ways than ever to effect positive change. These programs and others like it are part of the positive results.
