About The Grant

The Mano Amiga Program of the Plaza Las Américas Foundation and the Plaza Del Caribe Foundation was created to contribute to the social improvement of Puerto Rico by supporting the efforts of non-profit entities aligned with the foundation's priorities. Mano Amiga assists in programs in art and culture, education, entrepreneurship, environmental protection, health, and women's empowerment.



Areas of focus: 



  • Education: It will be limited to those programs aimed at facilitating, providing, and strengthening the K-12 school curriculum.


  • Art & Culture: Support for the development of new talents in the areas of music, dance, theater, painting, crafts and literature. Proposals that are only for exhibitions will not be evaluated.


  • Entrepreneurship: Support the offering of educational services and platforms aimed at individuals interested in establishing or growing their own businesses.


  • Health: Support for programs tied to providing tools and mechanisms that help community groups address problems related to the following chronic diseases in pediatrics or older adults: cardiovascular conditions, cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer's. Chronic diseases are defined as conditions that usually develop slowly, tend to be long-lasting, and progress in severity over time.


  • Environment: Programs that address specific environmental needs to improve a particular community.


  • Women's Training: To provide tools that help them with physical, mental, and emotional security, and support their economic support.


The organization that accepts donations will have one year to use the allocated funds and must deliver a preliminary report of results upon completion of the first 6 months after receiving the donation, and a final report at the end of the year. 


If an organization does not meet the requirement of delivering the required results reports, it will be obliged to return the donation in its entirety and will not be eligible for future donations. 


New applications will not be considered, organizations that have received donations from this program until they submit their reports of results. The results reports will be on the same platform and will be accessible to 6 months and at the end of the year after receiving the donation.

Requirements

  • The organization must be a private nonprofit and have been in operation for two or more years offering direct services in Puerto Rico. 



  • Requests may be considered for purposes of public educational, cultural, or health institutions that comply with the requirements. 


  • The funds requested must be for programs or services in the areas described and that are offered to residents of the extended Metro region (Vega Alta, Dorado, Toa Baja, Toa Alta, Cataño, Bayamón, Guaynabo, San Juan, Trujillo Alto, Carolina, Gurabo and Caguas) or the southwest region of Puerto Rico (Salinas, Coamo, Juana Díaz, Villalba, Ponce, Peñuelas, Guayanilla, Yauco, Guánica, Sabana Grande, San Germán, Lajas, Cabo Rojo, Hormigueros and Mayagüez). 


  • The organization will undertake to submit a partial report 6 months after receiving the donation and another at the end of the year that covers it. 


  • The organization must have an exemption as a non-profit organization granted by the PR Department of Finance or the Federal Treasury Department. 


  • An organization that has received donations from Mano Amiga on three consecutive occasions, you will not be able to apply again in the next three years. Except on meritorious occasions, according to determined by the Evaluation Committee.
