About The Grant

The Lawrence Foundation is a private family foundation focused on making grants to support environmental, human services, and other causes. The foundation makes grants to US-based qualified charitable organizations.

Areas of interest:

  • Environment (US headquartered organizations operating programs in the US or elsewhere in the world),

  • Human Services

  • Disaster relief (US headquartered organizations responding to disasters in the US or elsewhere in the world on an occasional basis),

  • Other (US headquartered organizations operating programs in the US or elsewhere in the world).

Our foundation is based in Santa Monica, CA, but has no geographical restrictions.

General operating or program/project grant requests within our areas of interest are accepted.

In general, regardless of whether a grant request is for general operating or program/project expenses, all of our grants will be issued as unrestricted grants.

We are okay if a portion of any grant that we award is used for reasonable indirect costs. 50% or lower would be reasonable for indirect costs.

Our grant application is fairly simple. We ask for some contact information, a brief description of your organization and funding needs, confirmation of your tax-exempt status, and the amount of money you are requesting.

Our foundation has two grant cycles: June and December. A completed application must be submitted online, using the Common Grant Application, by midnight (23:59:59) Central Time (CT) on either April 30 or October 31. The Lawrence Foundation does not require a Letter of Inquiry. You can submit a grant application by using the Common Grant Application website.

Please note, Lawrence is a common name, and there is another Lawrence Foundation in New York that has a different grantmaking focus and interests than our foundation in Santa Monica, CA.
