About The Grant

The June & Julian Foss Foundation's mission is to promote change in the life situations of young people in order to help them grow into healthy, responsible adults, and to promote philanthropy within our family.


The Foundation’s priority interests are:

  • Children and young adults

  • Children and young adults with mental illness or physical disabilities

The Foundation focuses on programs that:

  • Strengthen families

  • Promote recognition of equality and respect for diversity

  • Promote recognition of the innate value of self and others

  • Promote respect for one’s own values and those of others

  • Enhance the capacity for individuals to recognize their own capabilities

  • Enhance capacity for self-sufficient living


We accept applications from organizations that provide services in and/or near the following cities:


  • Tacoma and Seattle, Washington

  • Portland, Oregon

  • San Francisco, Berkeley, San Mateo, and Castro Valley, California

  • Phoenix, Arizona (Phoenix metro area, Gilbert, Chandler, Tempe, Mesa, Queen Creek, and Apache Junction)

  • Miami, Florida

Grant Cycle Dates and Process


April 1 - May 31: Applications are received and acknowledged.

Requirements

  • Part of our mission is to promote and learn about philanthropy within our family; therefore, we require that, to be eligible to receive grants, applicants must receive a Site Visit from family members, who will then see and/or learn about the program for which the grant is to be used. 


  • After the site visit, members must file reports about their visits, including details about whom they met and what they learned, along with their recommendations about the grant requested.
