About The Grant
The Special Horses Emergency Fund offers a one-time $100 gift to any U.S.-based equine rescue 501(c)(3) organization in good standing with the IRS and their state. This funding is intended to help defray urgent and unexpected costs. If the organization does not operate its own facility, the funds must be directed to the appropriate foster.
The funds may not be used to purchase an equine directly from a kill buyer. Each organization is eligible only once per calendar year. The goal is to provide immediate support within 24 hours of the request, with minimal application and follow-up paperwork. Once the fund is depleted for the fiscal year, no additional gifts will be provided.
To apply for a gift from The Special Horses Emergency Fund, download the form below and email it with your 501(c)(3) determination letter and 990 to wendin@specialhorses.org.
Requirements
The organization must have an annual budget of $100,000 or less.
The organization must have been operating as a recognized 501(c)(3) for a minimum of one year (by date on the determination letter).
The organization cannot receive the funds for two years following a consecutive gift of two years.
