San Juan Island Community Foundation

The San Juan Island Community Foundation offers grants to 501(c)(3) nonprofits, government agencies, schools, and qualifying religious organizations for non-religious projects. Funding focuses on education, arts, health, environment, and social services.


Request for $3,500 or less


A streamlined grant application is now available for requests that are $3,500 or less. These grant requests follow the same grant cycle timeline noted above, but may not require a pre-application meeting. Please call the office at 360-378-1001 prior to submitting an application to discuss your project and confirm it qualifies for this new application. When you’re ready to submit, go to the $3,500 or Less Grant Application to fill out your application by the grant deadline.



What types of projects do we support?

We prioritize projects that: 

  • Address current or emerging community needs. 

  • Strengthen and improve the community's health, resilience, and well-being. 

  • Are well-planned, collaborative, and supported by others. 

  • Are innovative and sustainable. 

  • Serve underserved groups in the community. 

  • Align with and support your organization’s mission


Applications submitted without a pre-application meeting may not be considered for funding. To schedule a pre-application meeting, contact the office at (360) 378-1001.

Applications are reviewed two times per year. Incomplete applications will be returned. In order for your grant to be considered in a timely manner, please submit your online application by end of day on the following dates:

Emergency Grant Application


If your San Juan Island nonprofit organization is in need of emergency grant funding in the areas of health and human services as a result of a crisis, use the form to apply, and call the SJICF office at (360) 378-1001 before submitting a funding request.


Priority will be given to needs that serve vulnerable community members in the areas of health and human services.

About The Grant

Requirements

  • Tax-exempt organizations (501(c)(3)s) as defined by the IRS.


  • Local non-profits, government agencies, non-profit schools, and religious organizations (only for non-religious purposes).


  • Grants may be awarded to outside organizations if their programs directly benefit the San Juan Island community.


  • Every grantee must submit a Grant Evaluation & Status Report within six months of receiving the grant
