About The Grant
The Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation invests in educational projects that improve health by advancing the education and training of future health professionals. We are focusing on the learning environments where our future health professionals train so that they learn not only prevention and the social determinants of health but are well prepared to care for people when they are ill.
We are interested in projects that focus on medical students, medical residents, undergraduate nursing students, and/or graduate nursing students, as well as learners in other health professions.
At the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation, we foster innovation in clinical learning environments by investing in three areas:
Promoting Diversity, Equity, and Belonging- We must ensure that everyone who receives care and those who learn, teach, and work in clinical environments are treated equitably.
Increasing Collaboration Among Future Health Professionals-
This means promoting collaboration among healthcare providers, such as nurses, social workers, physicians pharmacists, and others so that learners in these environments are trained to provide the highest quality patient care as members of a collaborative team.
Preparing Future Health Professionals to Navigate Ethical Dilemmas- To succeed today, health professionals need more than clinical skills.
We have two distinct grant programs. We award President’s Grants and Board Grants.
President's Grants
President’s Grants can be given at any time. They are evaluated by an internal team and awarded by our president. President’s Grants primarily align with our priority areas.
President’s Grants are one year or less in duration and awarded amounts are no more than $25,000, which includes indirect costs of not more than 10%.
Board Grants
Board Grants are generally one to three years in duration with a budget target of no more than $100K annually, which includes indirect costs at no more than 10%.
Board Grants are awarded three times each year, following approval at one of the three annual Macy Foundation board meetings.
Please note: The process from Letter of Inquiry to Board approval can take up to a year.
Requirements
Grants are made only to tax-exempt institutions or agencies.
We do not consider requests for general support, endowments, equipment, construction or renovation projects, capital campaigns or activities conducted outside the United States and its territories.
