Light A Single Candle is a private foundation dedicated to the relief of poverty through effective partnerships that target: food support, food security and food sustainability, microbusiness and economic development, development of individuals, families, and communities toward self-determination and an improved standard of living.
Projects to be considered must be located within the following countries: Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, or Nicaragua.
Our Focus:
Economic Sustainability: Sustainable income development-based initiatives that address poverty, increase income, teach skills, provide training, and create individual, family and community economic opportunities.
This may include:
Agricultural income development projects
Animal husbandry income development projects
Improvement of supply chain & market access development
Value-added post-production initiatives
Food Security & Nutrition:
This may include:
Long-term sustainable agricultural programs that provide a solution to food security.
Programs that promote nutrition and food diversity, focusing on malnutrition prevention and/or abatement.
Emergency feeding relief programs with established partners only.
Education, Community Training and/or Skill Building: Development of individuals, families, and communities toward self-determination and an improved standard of living.
This may include:

Financial literacy
Training & skill building
Leadership Development training
Agricultural Capacity Building
Asset building
Community Transformation: The Community Transformation objective aims to significantly impact a single community across multiple sectors, which may include:

These initiatives typically extend for five years or more, involving physical and capital inputs, with an additional five years dedicated to impact measurement.
All partners interested in introducing themselves to Light a Single Candle are asked to submit a Letter of Inquiry. This brief introduction should describe your organization, the scope of your work, and your reason for reaching out to us. This initial step is essential for registration within our potential application system.
About The Grant
Requirements
The recipient organization must be a not-for-profit USA based 501 (c) (3) public charity as defined by the Internal Revenue Service code.
Projects to be considered must be located within the following countries: Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica & Nicaragua.
The recipient organization must have staff and/or partners on the ground and include the local community in the project development and implementation.
