About The Grant
The Luce Foundation empowers knowledge-makers and supports dynamic community leaders through seven grantmaking areas and two leadership programs.
All our funding reflects Luce's commitment to education, research, knowledge-driven leadership, and the exchange of innovative ideas with the public.
Areas of Focus:
-American Art Program
We encourage projects that amplify the experiences of underrepresented artists, and encourage dialogues with diverse collaborators and communities.
-Asia Program
We invest in developing expertise and capacity in East and Southeast Asia, and foster cross-cultural understanding, cooperation, and knowledge-sharing.
-Democracy, Ethics, & Public Trust Program
DEPT turns its goals into reality by funding institutions and projects designed to create equitable and accessible media and information ecosystems, and by fostering enthusiastic community participation in policy development.
-Indigeneous Knowledge Program
Supporting Indigenous knowledge keepers who seek to educate, and preserve community strength and sovereignty, sets up Native America to thrive for years to come.
-Luce Scholars Program
Luce Scholars Program is a competitive leadership development fellowship that provides emerging leaders with immersive professional experiences in Asia. We aim to strengthen relationships across borders by offering Scholars opportunities to deepen their understanding of Asia's countries, cultures, and people.
-Religion & Theology Program
Our goal is to highlight religion’s role as both an agent of inequality and a force for social transformation.
-Women in STEM Program
We aspire to close the gender gap in the field, broaden the participation of women from diverse backgrounds, and advance women-led STEM innovation for positive social change.
If you have difficulty registering for the online portal or submitting a concept note, please contact the grants administrator at grants@hluce.org.
We present recommended proposals to the Luce Foundation’s board of directors for consideration three times each year—in March, June, and November. The concept note review and proposal development process generally takes a minimum of 3 to 4 months.
Requirements
Grants are made to U.S. not-for-profit organizations or their international equivalents.
An organization that already has an active Luce Foundation grant should contact the appropriate Program Director before applying for a second grant in the same area. An organization with an active grant from one of our programs is welcome to apply for a grant from a different program category.
The Foundation does not support healthcare, medical initiatives, disaster relief, or international development projects.
