About The Grant

The North Carolina GlaxoSmithKline Foundation's mission is to support science, health, and education across the state of North Carolina.

The Foundation works to build coalitions of individuals and organizations to combine resources and focus efforts to more effectively meet the critical educational needs of the state. Our efforts typically support pilot programs, expansion efforts, and mentoring for STEM and healthcare careers. We are dedicated to supporting educational programming that fosters innovative learning, particularly in underserved areas, while addressing critical community and state issues.

Traditional Grants

The North Carolina GlaxoSmithKline Foundation provides Traditional grants of $25,000 and above to organizations working to help meet the educational needs of today’s society and future generations. The Foundation’s primary focus is to provide seed funds for new and worthwhile educational programs in the state of North Carolina. The request must be for programs that benefit a large geographical region or provide a statewide impact.

Proposals may be submitted for one year of funding or multi-year funding with a maximum duration of five years. Proposals should advance science, health, or educational attainment, but not provide medical assistance.

Application Deadlines

The Board meets four times a year to consider and award grants. All Traditional Grant Inquiries must be received by:

  • Jan 1

  • April 1

  • July 1

  • Oct 1

Or the next business day if a weekend or holiday to be considered in the next funding cycle. (Funding cycles are typically 90 days apart.)

Applications that do not advance science, health, or educational attainment, or that provide medical assistance will not be considered.

A Traditional grant inquiry must be submitted before moving to a full application. Inquiries are accepted on a rolling basis. The Traditional grant inquiry will be reviewed, and if the submitted inquiry falls within the Traditional grant guidelines, a second-stage application will be made available via the application software. The second stage application must be completed and submitted for review by the board of directors. Completing a second-stage Traditional application is not an indication of approval for a grant.
